Batch Degasser - Model Factory Performance

The Foseco Batch Degasser started out as a Visual Basic application to be used in a metallurgy course. Given basic data (such as rotor type, rotor speed, gas flow rate etc.), the application models the performance of a liquid metal treatment device (a batch degasser) and outputs graphs to show metal purity varying over time. The training application was so well received that the customer requested it be developed as a web based tool, designed to help staff involved in technical sales and marketing.

Input values, calculate and output graphs

Select default crucibles and rotors from modal boxes

Admin users can see calculated values

Options to display and compare multiple graphs

Can be viewed in multiple languages

Extensive backend to manage users, settings, languages, downloads

A lot of work has been done to make the application both eye-catching and easy to use, allowing Foseco staff to analyse rapidly customers' operations, and make suggestions for their improvement.

The initial website has also been developed into a secure standalone application, for those occasions when technical staff have limited web access on the shop floor. This year, Foseco will also be using the application at their tradeshows.
