To my surprise, I have discovered that the website for the movie Space Jam (1996) is still up and running.
Somebody at Warner Brothers has decided to keep the site preserved in its original state for the past twenty-odd years. And I can only thank them from the very bottom of my heart.
This website is the very pinnacle of 1990s web design. And it is amazing.
Does it have background images? Yes, it does.
Does it have different background images on different pages? Yes, it does.
Does it have lots of vibrant and exciting colours? Yes, it does. We have exciting backgrounds in black, purple, blue, green, red, orange, yellow…. And text in any colour you like. I think my favourite is purple text on an orange background.
Does it have flashing text and images? Yes it does.
Does it have navigation where you have to click on different parts of an image? Yes, it does.
Does it use iframes for menus? Yes, it does.
Does the navigation completely disappear on some pages? Yes it does. Intelligent use of the back button is required to navigate this site.
Websites were not about readability, easy navigation, standard user interface, sharing information. It was Look! We have a website! Be afraid, be very afraid.
Some things have got better.
